The province’s reopening plan and the sweet days of summer have arrived hand-in-hand. The Village has come alive with the resumption of group classes, activities, and the simple joy of great company.
A message from our Director, Tanya Pirie:
“Summer is here and we are happy to make the most of the nice weather.
Residents are able to safely enjoy some outdoor activities, our beautiful
ponds, walking trails and gardens. As we move to Step 3, we will take necessary
safety measures for the allowable activities and facilities to open and resume.
We appreciate your support and patience as we all work towards a safe and
healthy restart.”
Community Corner
Our residents love to participate in an active social life – that’s one of the things that draws them to our community in the first place. This is just a taste of the activities, groups and the continual roster of events within the St. Elizabeth Village community, and the surrounding Hamilton area – seasonal and annual events, holiday celebrations, dances, musical performances, educational talks, and more!
Woodworking
The familiar smell of sawdust is back in the air! As we enter Step 2 of the provincial reopening plan, residents can once again enjoy the tools and machines that our woodshop has to offer.
Japanese Exercise
Our resident-led Japanese exercises incorporate elements of Tai chi and low-impact movements. For the safety of our residents, classes are currently taking place outdoors in the beautiful Gibbons Square.
Pandemic Hero: Rebecca Fournier
We’re thrilled to share that our incredible Director of Care, Rebecca Fournier, was recognized in the Ontario Legislature for her incredible dedication and compassion.
“She treats her residents and her staff as extended members of her family. At the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Rebecca was willing to live at St. Elizabeth Village in an effort to keep her residents and staff protected from the spread of the virus. Rebecca is a single mother. She has two children at home. Her children stayed with her parents during the time that she actually moved in and lived at the retirement home. Rebecca was willing to sacrifice time with her family for months in an effort to protect the lives of her most vulnerable residents.”
Rebecca and her team [at the St. Elizabeth Retirement Residence] are true heroes. Watch the full video.
