ST. ELIZABETH VILLAGE RE-IMAGINED
Ontario’s first resort lifestyle community is coming to The Village at St. Elizabeth Mills. The transformation of the 114-acre site into a themed lifestyle complex with a town square, restaurants and shops has been in the planning stages over the past two years. The entertainment design company behind destinations around the world and theme parks such as Universal Studios Florida and Canada’s Wonderland is bringing its flair for entertainment to an $800-million re-imagining of St. Elizabeth Village.
The idea to bring on an entertainment designer to revamp the gated community and give it a small-town atmosphere came to St. Elizabeth Mills president Tony DiFruscio after Zest Communities Inc. took over the property in 2014. After working with residents to see how they could upgrade the village while preserving its “feel,” he said his mind turned to Disney’s Board Walk, a quarter-mile district of shopping, dining and nightlife in Florida.
FORREC was a natural fit for the project because of the company’s work on The Villages in central Florida, three themed retirement communities inspired by small-town U.S.A. With built projects in over 20 countries, they have mastered the art of making memorable experiences by building big ideas. FORREC brings 30 years of experience in theaming, urban, architectural and interior design to the redevelopment of the Village.
The impressive Master Plan on Hamilton Mountain enhances the natural beauty of the ponds, the lush mature landscaping and wide open spaces. The plan brings new life to the Village where one can dine alfresco, take in theatre, shop, enjoy live music, take a stroll along the boardwalk, enjoy the morning sun and evening sunset.
